Frequently asked questions

How does the check-in mechanism work?

EchoPass periodically sends you a verification email. As long as you click the link to confirm you're there, your messages stay completely private. If you don't respond within the configured window, reminders are sent (by email or SMS on Premium). Once the trigger delay you've set has passed without a response, your messages are automatically delivered to your designated recipients.

What check-in interval can I choose?

On the free plan, the maximum check-in interval is 7 days (168 hours). On Premium, it is unlimited - you can set intervals of several weeks or months to match your lifestyle. The trigger delay (how long after a missed check-in your messages are sent) is configurable between 2 and 30 days.

What exactly happens when my switch triggers?

Your messages switch to "triggered" status and an email is immediately sent to each of your designated recipients. If a recipient has a phone number on file, an SMS is sent at the same time. The recipient receives a secure link valid for one year to access the content. If the message hasn't been read after 2 days and again after 7 days, two automatic reminders are sent.

Does my recipient need an EchoPass account?

No. Your recipient simply receives an email with a secure link. On their first visit, they receive an 8-digit verification code by email (and by SMS if a phone number is on file) to confirm their identity. No account or sign-up is required on their end.

Can EchoPass read my messages?

No. Your messages and files are encrypted using the XChaCha20-Poly1305 algorithm with a unique key per message. The architecture is designed so that even the EchoPass team cannot technically read your content. This zero-knowledge principle applies to every plan, including the free one.

Is my data secure even on the free plan?

Absolutely. End-to-end encryption is identical across all plans. The free plan is limited on the number of messages (1) and recipients (1), not on security. Encryption, European hosting, and GDPR compliance are included in every plan.

What files can I attach to my messages? (Premium)

On Premium, you can attach up to 100 files in total across all your messages. Maximum size per file: 50 MB. Supported types: images, PDFs, plain text, Office documents, ZIP archives, MP4 videos, and audio files. Each file is individually encrypted with its own key before storage.

Can I upgrade from free to Premium at any time?

Yes, from your account settings at any time. Your existing messages, recipients, and data are fully preserved when you upgrade.

What happens if I don't renew my annual subscription?

Your account automatically reverts to the free plan at expiry. Your data and messages are kept, but access to Premium features (SMS, file attachments, long intervals, multiple recipients) is suspended until you renew.

Is the Lifetime plan truly permanent?

Yes. A one-time payment of €120 gives you access to Premium features for the entire lifetime of the service, updates included, with no further payments ever.

Can I cancel my annual subscription?

Yes, at any time from your account settings or via the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period - you keep Premium access until the already-paid expiry date, with no pro-rata refund.

How do I sign in to EchoPass?

You can sign up with your email address and a password, or via your Google account in one click. EchoPass supports two-factor authentication (2FA) by email, by SMS (Premium), or via a TOTP authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) to keep your account secure.
